The Director General of Immigration has announced that effective immediately a very substantial increase in the fine imposed on foreign national who overstay the validity date on their Visa is now in effect.

In a circular memo issued on behalf of the Director General of Immigration dated April 29, 2019, the former fine of Rp. 300,000 per day for overstaying issued to a foreigner has been increased to Rp. 1,000,000 per day, effective May 3, 2019.

The daily fine scheme will be applied against foreigners who have overstayed for less than 60 days.  Overstays of more than 60 days cannot be resolved through the payment of the daily fine and are handled by immigration as a criminal violation of immigration law with penalties, including possible jail time, decided by an administrative court.
